Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

STARTING

How do I get started?
It is easy to start! During your first month, attend our CrossFit Conditioning classes that will introduce you to the key concepts and foundational movements for CrossFit.  You also need to attend 3 Saturday Barbell Classes.  These classes will introduce you to the Back Squat, Deadlift and Strict Press, the Olympic Lifts (Power Cleans and Snatch) and the Lifts that are used in WODs (Work Out of the Day).   Equipped with an understanding of these key concepts and fundamental movements you will be able to build a good base of fitness and be able to progress quickly during CrossFit workouts. Email us at info@crossfitchiangmai.com to sign up for an introductory class!

What do the Fundamentals classes cover?
We'll be coaching you in several aspects including CrossFit approach to fitness, bodyweight exercises, medicine balls, kettlebells, box jumps, weightlifting (back squats, deadlift, press), mobility and nutrition. We’ll introduce you to metabolic conditioning (a.k.a. "MetCon”) and we'll also be ramping you up to the intensity of our normal all levels WOD classes.

Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?
No -- our workouts and exercises scale to any level. We've had everyone from athletes to deconditioned/out of shape people starting and they've all done well. We will work with you to find the appropriate level of intensity for you and your workouts.

I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?
Many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, then to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. At the same time, our instructors are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises, to tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program. Just ask a trainer if you want a referral to a medical professional.

I'm really fit and would like to start with the Strength and Conditioning class, can I do that?
We'd need to check and see that you are competent in all the movement/exercises we use in our classes.  If you think you are, just see a trainer and we can arrange a chance to review things with you to see if you're ready to go!

I'm just visiting Chiang Mai, but I am an experienced CrossFitter visiting from another affiliate.  Can I come workout?
We welcome experienced CrossFitters from all over!  Please give us a heads up of your visit by emailing us at info@crossfitchiangmai.com first, and check out our schedule online.

MEMBERSHIP

What are the membership options?
We have one membership level, and you can attend as many days a week as you like.

When are fees due and how do I pay them?
Fees are due monthly. At this time we are only set up to accept cash. Please see a trainer to pay your fees.

How do I change my membership option?
We operate on a one month schedule beginning the day of your 1st visit. If you need to make a change to your membership please notify a trainer at least 7 days in advance.

Can I put my membership on hold?
If you are going to be gone at at least 2 weeks we can put your account on hold. Please notify us by email (info@crossfitchiangmai.com) one week prior to your leaving. Be sure to include when you are leaving and when you will be returning.

How can I cancel my membership?
Memberships can be cancelled on the date of your monthly renewal. Notification that you would like to cancel must be done by sending an email to monica@crossfitchiangmai.com at least 7 days in advance of the first of the coming month.

I’m going to be on vacation for a week or two next month, can my fees be discounted?
We do not prorate fees. Our fee schedule runs on a monthly basis. If you need your membership put on hold for 2 weeks or more that can be done -- just let us know!

Can I just come to CrossFit Chiang Mai and work out on my own?
Sorry, no. We are more like a Muay Thai or MMA gym than a typical commercial gym. We offer classes, workshops and small group sessions, where people work out under trainer supervision, as it yields better, safer, and faster results than having people simply use the facility by themselves.

FACILITIES

Do you have showers?
Yes we do!  We have two showers and hot water. Bring your own soap and a towel.

Do you have drinking water?
Yes.  Please bring a water bottle and you can fill up for free.  We do offer 15 Baht bottles of water if you forget yours.

Where should I park?
The car park is out by the trees in front of the tennis court. Please try to park in rows, not randomly scattered under the trees -- people tend to get blocked in that way!  Motorcycles can part near the gym.  If the covered motorcycle parking is full, park along the same side, not across from covered motorcycle parking (we sometimes use that for workouts). We don't want to knock your motorcycle over with a prowler or kettlebell...

What's with all the flags?
Chiang Mai is a very international city.  We hang a flag up for each member or visiting CrossFitter who has trained at CrossFit Chiang Mai. We've got 40+ flags up and counting!
